Mercy Corps

Engagement Experiences
To share Mercy Corps’ work and impact in novel ways, I helped concept and create wall calendars with punch-out postcards and QR codes along with a variety of other unique and engaging experiences.
Run on Sentences
Mercy Corps Northwest’s LIFE program helped women in prison develop business skills to use after release. To share the stories of women who had participated in the program with the Portland community, I helped develop a gallery exhibit.

Sadly, the pandemic unfolded before the opening and the team had to pivot to a digital experience.
Climate Dice
The development team at Mercy Corps facilitates workshops for companies with employee giving programs. I helped develop Climate Dice for these events to illustrate how climate-driven disasters affect communities and how the agency’s programming helps them recover and grow their resilience for the future.

Here’s how it works:
Comps of produced inflatable die and cardboard spinner.
Event attendees take turns trying move from crisis to recovery, across a series of floor tiles that span 12 feet and represent aspects of resilience.

First, they roll the die to find out what type of disaster hit the community. If it lands on the multiplier, they have to spin to find out what other challenges they community had already been facing.
The facilitator reads the cooresponding disaster card, removes the the appropriate tiles, and asks the attendee to try to reach recovery using only the remaining tiles.

After it becomes clear that they can’t make it without help, the facilitator reveals the action card, replaces some of tiles, and asks the attendee to try again.
Once across, they get a takeaway card sharing a story about someone who participated in Mercy Corps programming and how their support can help make a meaningful difference in communities around the world.
